Waseem Khatri retained his title at the 14th National Ranking Scrabble Tournament as he won nine matches at the Beach Luxury hotel yesterday.
Khatri remained unbeaten in the tournament, while Javed Shamim clinched the second position, winning seven out of nine games. Yasir Jamshed finished third with six wins.
Khatri scored an aggregate of 520, the highest of the day and earned the title for the best player of the tournament. He beat Tariq Pervez with a margin of 110 points. Pervez, who was vying for second place before his match with Khatri, was only able to register five games in total.
“It’s great to win the event,” Khatri told The Express Tribune. “But I still need to improve my game so that I can do better at international events.”
Meanwhile, national juniors champion Shahzaib Khatri finished eighth in the event. The youngster, who is also participating in the World Youth scrabble Championship in December, said that competing with seniors served as good preparation. | | See Also in Sports News

The second and final One-Day International (ODI) between Scotland and Pakistan was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to a damp pitch at the Raeburns Place in Edinburgh, according to information on the ESPNcricinfo website.
The umpires carried out several inspections and were left with the no choice but to call off the match, resulting in Pakistan taking the series 1-0 courtesy their 96-run win in the first ODI on Friday.
