|Thumping defeat awaits PPP, says Nisar|
31 July 2012
Terming President Asif Ali Zardari’s optimism about the prospects of a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) win in the upcoming elections nothing less than “daydreaming”, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Monday that the disgruntled masses would inflict a thumping defeat on the ruling party “across the country and not just in Punjab”.
Nisar, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, was echoing Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML N) response to earlier remarks by the president. In his recent speech in Sindh, the president had rubbished the idea that the government was dragging its feet on holding general elections and reiterated that “the PPP would again emerge victorious”.
Calling the PPP corrupt and incompetent, Nisar in his statement said that “hollow slogans instead of working towards solutions to people’s problems” was defaming Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s party and the abject demonstration of historic bad governance would not go unnoticed by the people.
The leader of the opposition reiterated that the president’s optimism showed how ill aware he was of the problems being faced by citizens on a daily basis. He added that PPP’s step-motherly behavior towards Punjab was still etched in peoples mind.
The Punjab government, led by PML-N, has continuously criticised the federal government for ignoring the largest province in the country by inflicting heavy load-shedding during the past few months deepening energy crisis.
