LOS ANGELES: The list of nominations for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were announced earlier this week by MTV with pop singer Rihanna and rapper Drake each grabbing five nominations. This included Drake’s “Take Care” featuring Rihanna, for video of the year.
Pop star Katy Perry received four nominations, second overall to Drake and Rihanna, including best female video for her inspirational anthem “Part of Me”, which is also the name of her 3D concert film debuted earlier this month.
The awards will feature singer Alicia Keys premiering a new song from her upcoming album and a performance by British boy band One Direction. Additionaly, as a sign of dance music’s growing popularity in the United States, a new category for best electronic dance music video has been added this year.
Following is a list of nominations in key categories for the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards to be handed out during a televised show in Los Angeles on September 6. Winners are picked by public voting:

LONDON: US writer Lydia Davis, best known for her unconventionally short stories, on Wednesday claimed the prestigious Man Booker International Prize at a London ceremony.
The New York based author beat off competition from the nine other authors who made the shortlist to win the award, which honours "achievement in fiction on the world stage".
While Davis writes conventional short stories, others consist of just one paragraph or sentence.
