RAWALPINDI: The Pakistan Army and paramilitary Rangers were called in after a clash between two groups left seven people dead and many others injured in the garrison city here on Friday during a Muharram procession, Geo News reported.

Angry people turned violent and set many shops on fire in Raja Bazaar.

The clash triggered a stampede in the procession before police intervened and brought the situation under control but only after a policeman was beaten by one of the groups.

According to reports, the clash erupted as a Muharram procession reached Fawara Chowk of the garrison city.

Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and has sought a report from officials.
