ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court has directed the government to appoint judges in Karachi and Hyderabad anti-corruption courts within three days.A three-member Supreme Court bench heard the case of shortage of judges in special courts on Tuesday, during which the deputy attorney general informed the apex court that there was no judge in the Karachi Anti-corruption court since May 25, 2011.The chief justice remarked that the accused got free due to the absence of judges and the courts were then blamed for the lapse. “This court has failed to understand why the government is delaying the appointment,” he observed. The court directed the concerned authorities to fill the vacant posts as soon as possible and adjourned the hearing till July 2.Agencies add: The court also ordered the filling of vacancies of judges forthwith in all the courts working under federal government.Justice Jawad S Khawaja said the necessary due process was the characteristic of the Parliament, adding that in the absence of the judges, from where the process would begin and completed. The court issued instructions that the judges should be appointed within three days in the anti-corruption courts in Karachi and Hyderabad, while all the vacant posts of judges in various courts must be filled at an early date. The bench mentioned in its written order that the judges had not been posted to banking and accountability courts; therefore, the culprits were laying in the jails without any trial and the courts would have to release them on this ground.
