Punjab Assembly adopts local govt amend bill

 

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Thursday passed the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill with majority while all the amendment notices by the opposition were rejected.

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan moved the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2010 as recommended by Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development in the house with Deputy Speaker Rana Mashud Ahmed Khan in the chair.

The PA had referred the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2010 to the Standing Committee on Local Government and rural Development on October 6, 2010 with MPA Tahir Ahmed Sandhu as its chairman.

The PA session started some 40 minutes behind its scheduled time.

Some five amendments have been introduced in the bill to further amend the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001.

As per the amended Bill the words "Election Authority" have been substituted by the words "Election Commission", while section 150 in Ordinance XIII of 2001 has been amended by virtue of which the Election Commission shall conduct the local government elections.

QUETTA: A man was killed and over dozen others injured in a blast apparently targeting a vehicle of a paramilitary force in Satellite Town area of the provincial capital on Saturday. According to preliminary reports, shots were also heard shortly after the blast. Police said that the explosion took place on Saryab Road in Satellite Town.
