|Punjab Assembly adopts local govt amend bill|

LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Thursday passed the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill with majority while all the amendment notices by the opposition were rejected.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan moved the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2010 as recommended by Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development in the house with Deputy Speaker Rana Mashud Ahmed Khan in the chair.
The PA had referred the Punjab Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2010 to the Standing Committee on Local Government and rural Development on October 6, 2010 with MPA Tahir Ahmed Sandhu as its chairman.
The PA session started some 40 minutes behind its scheduled time.
Some five amendments have been introduced in the bill to further amend the Punjab Local Government Ordinance 2001.
As per the amended Bill the words "Election Authority" have been substituted by the words "Election Commission", while section 150 in Ordinance XIII of 2001 has been amended by virtue of which the Election Commission shall conduct the local government elections.

QUETTA: 20 passengers out of several abducted by unidentified gunmen from Karachi-bound buses arriving from the Balochistan capital near Mastung, were killed on Friday night, security sources said.
Levies sources told Geo News that two buses, arriving from Quetta, were stopped near Mastung’s Khad Koocha area by unknown miscreants. They hand-picked several passengers from the buses took them away with them, they added.
They killed 20 passengers later, according to Levies sources.

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Election Commission has directed political parties and independent candidates to strictly abide by the code of conduct for local government polls on election day. On Friday it asked aspirants to abstain from further campaigning for which the deadline expired on May 28.

ISLAMABAD: The judicial commission investigating allegations of rigging in 2013 general elections has summoned then Punjab caretaker chief minister Najam Sethi and television anchor Hamid Mir for cross-examination on Monday.
The three-judge tribunal headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk issued the orders on Friday after Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf counsel Abdul Hafiz Pirzada said he wanted to conclude his cross-examination by questioning Sethi and Mir.
