KARACHI: Pakistan coach Mohtashim Rashid was pleased after the team clinched the Ireland Tri-Nation Women’s One-Day Series involving the hosts and Bangladesh, adding that Nain Abidi’s record century was the icing on the cake
Pakistan, led by Sana Mir, beat Ireland and Bangladesh to secure their triumph in Dublin with vice-captain Abidi scoring the first international century for the women’s team against the hosts. Rasheed said the achievement has given the players ‘self-belief’ and motivated them to do better at the international level.
“Abidi has become a role model and suddenly all the girls have got this belief of conquering new avenues which is great for Pakistan cricket,” Rasheed told The Express Tribune from Dublin. “Abidi had been working very hard for the last couple of months and it paid off as she produced a special performance.
“The conditions weren’t favourable as the pitches were damp due to rain. There was a lot of movement of the ball but our batters were up for the challenge.”

MADRID: Atletico Madrid won their 10th Spanish Cup when they beat bitter city rivals Real Madrid 2-1 in extra-time in a match which saw both Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo sent off.
Real had been unbeaten in the previous 25 meetings between the two sides dating back 14 years and Mourinho’s men on Friday got off to the perfect start when Ronaldo headed in Luka Modric’s corner.

DUBLINL: Leinster shrugged off the absence of star centre Brian O’Driscoll to beat Stade Francais 34-13 on Friday to clinch the European Challenge Cup.
It was the Irish side’s fourth continental title to add to their 2009, 2011 and 2012 European Cup triumphs.
For Stade, it was another story of final heartbreak having lost the 2011 Challenge Cup title match as well as suffering the agony of European Cup final losses in 2001 and 2005.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army swept the Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship with a dominating performance that included 21 gold medals in just 25 events.
The four-day championship ended on Friday at the Liaquat Gymnasium in Islamabad, with the final rounds of the men’s competitions in the light, welter, middle and heavyweight categories.
