Islamabad: Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf (PTI) Friday claimed that the Pakistani embassies in Britain and the United States were refusing visas to journalists and peace activists who wanted to cover the PTI’s October 6 peace rally in South Waziristan citing security risks.
PTI Chairman Imran Khan had announced holding a “peace march” to South Waziristan on October 6 to protest against US drone strikes in the area.
According to a PTI statement, the Pakistani authorities were refusing visas by saying that the country’s policy strictly prohibited the movement of foreigners in tribal areas and PTI “cannot guarantee” their security.
“PTI condemns this act of stopping international media to come to Pakistan for a cause which is in the interest of Pakistan,” the statement said.
Pakistan embassy in UK rejected visa to renowned journalists Carol Crayson and Yacine Helali to participate in the Waziristan Peace March, it added.
According to the schedule released by PTI, Imran Khan along with participants of the rally, including foreign nationals, would leave Islamabad at 9am on October 6. ISLAMABAD: Muslim League–Nawaz (ML-N) has called for a meeting of its parliamentary party on May 20 here, Geo News reported Saturday.
