Phoenix: Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan has re-signed a four-year contract with the franchise worth $21.2 million with a $2 million signing bonus on Friday.
Doan had many other options on his table but he chose to remain loyal with Coyotes.
The deal was accomplished a day before the NHL will lock out the players Saturday, after the league and NHL Players’ Association couldn’t reach a new collective-bargaining agreement, USA Today reported.
In total, 16 teams expressed interest and six presented formal offers, with a rumoured four-year contract worth $30 million from the Buffalo Sabres headlining the batch.
During his time with the Coyotes, Doan became an All-Star, reached the 1,000-game plateau and scored 30 goals twice. He was recognized for his leadership by the league and was continuously involved with the community. | | See Also in Sports News
