London: Sir Chris Hoy will carry the flag of Great Britain in the opening ceremony of London Olympics 2012.
Hoy overwhelmingly said, “I’m absolutely delighted and honoured to have been voted as the flag bearer for Team GB. To lead out your team at a home Olympics is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and one that that I can’t wait to experience in just a few days time.”
Sir Chris Hoy has won three gold medals in Beijing 2008. And he is the first Britain Olympian to win three gold medals in a single Olympic Games after Henry Taylor in 1988.
The decision of carrying the Great Britain flag was taken through a poll, where all the 542 member of team Great Britain voted. And he was chosen unanimously by all the athletes.
The potential flag bearer list also included 9 major names, which includes Tim Brabants, shooter Richard Faulds, open-water swimmer Kerri Ann-Payne, Sara Stevenson, archer Allison Williamson, and rower Katherine Grainger. | | See Also in Sports News
