ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) froze 22 bank accounts of former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin on Thursday and directed the bank managers to not let the former minister withdraw any money from the accounts, Express News reported. Shahbuddin is implicated in the Ephedrine quota scandal.
According to Express News correspondent Qaiser Shirazi, the ANF said that the money deposited in the 22 bank accounts was earned illegally by Shahabuddin by allotting quotas of Ephedrine.
The bank officials, complying with the orders of ANF have stopped transactions for the former minister.
Challenging ANF’s decision to freeze his accounts, Shahabuddin filed a petition in the Rawalpindi Bench of the Islamabad High Court, maintaining that the ANF cannot seize his accounts and that they should be activated.
Admitting his plea, the court issued notices to the ANF, seeking a reply by October 10. | | See Also in Political News
