With the heady combination of Vishal- Shekhar, leading choreographers Bosco-Caesar, Farah Khan, Remo and Vaibhavi Merchant, the songs of ‘Student of the Year’ could well be top of the charts.
When it comes to a Karan Johar film, the expectations within the trade circles and the audience is always high. 'Student of the Year', which stars Aalia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra and Varun Dhawan, is no different. The film, directed by Johar himself comes almost two years after his last film My Name is Khan. Set in high school, the director had, in an earlier interview, called it his last hurrah with youth, almost a tribute to his first film Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, which went on to create a benchmark within the film industry.
Among the notable features of the film are the songs, six in all, including five songs and a mixed version. In a first of sorts, the music has been scored by Vishal-Shekhar, a departure from the Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy trio. The three numbers that Screen got an exclusive sneak peek into were disco song, a high wattage dance competition with Farah Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant putting in an appearance as judges (along with a surprise guest), Ishqwala Love and Radha.
While the Disco song which has strains of the famous (late)British singer Nazia Hassan’s Disco Deewane has been choreographed by Remo, the latter two have been choreographed by Farah Khan. And in true Johar style of including all his friends, yet another song sequence has been choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant and one more by Bosco-Caesar.
And while the three youngsters shake a mean leg to the energetic music, it is veteran Rishi Kapoor, who plays a school principal, sweet on television actor Ronit Roy, that could walk away with the glory for his little jig in the Radha song. Watch this space for more.
The film releases on October 19.
Highlight: In a first of sorts, the music has been scored by Vishal-Shekhar, a departure from old favourites, the Shankar-Ehsaan- Loy trio. | | See Also in Showbiz News
